Winter is here, and that means festive outfits galore. Whether you’re competing for a pageant or attending an event during the snowy season, now is the time to incorporate seasonal style into your wardrobe. There are three easy ways to dress for the occasion. And when I say “dress for the occasion,” think couture, not costume. But don’t worry, you don’t have to break the bank to pull off designer inspired looks.
Wearing a color that reminds you of the holidays is a simple way to signal the merry season. While most people think of rich reds and greens, you can also try wearing a metallic or jewel tone. Gold, silver, or bronze can stir up images of Christmas bells or New Years celebrations. Deep fuchsia or sapphire reflect visions of shining holiday lights. Shades of white can create a snow queen effect. And of course, you’ll never ever go wrong with a little black dress.
One word that comes to mind when you think of family holiday gatherings is warmth. You can capture this same feeling by choosing a dress that’s made of a thick or luxurious fabric. Velvet, satin, sequins, brocade, or charmeuse create this effect. Depending on the style you choose, these fabrics can also provide you with a tiny bit of extra warmth.
Stay warm in the chilly season with layered accents, that add texture, or more coverage. Long sleeve gowns are one of my favorite ways to dress for dropping temperatures. If you prefer a sexier look, you can choose a backless style or low dropped neckline. Wrap yourself up like a present by adding a bow detail, appliqués, or a belt. Adding a belt comes with the added bonus of a more defined waist.
No matter the occasion, you can create your own winter glam look by incorporating small style elements from the season. By choosing one of two of your favorite winter details, you’ll be perfectly dressed for the season. Those are our style tips, which ones were your favorites?
