Miss USA 2022 Date and Location Announced

It’s time to get ready for the next Miss USA pageant! Eight long months after Miss USA 2021, the national organization finally announced a date and location on July 15, 2022. The Miss USA Organization took to their Instagram page to share the announcement:

“The 71st Annual Miss USA will be held October 3rd, 2022 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada.”
Yup- you read that right…

Now that we’ve gotten our obligatory “Mean Girls” reference out of the way, let’s dive into the details!
This will be the second time that the Miss USA pageant will be held in Reno, Nevada. On May 2nd, 2019, the late Cheslie Kryst was crowned the 68th Miss USA at the Grand Sierra Resort. The decision to host the pageant in Reno was made as a way to pay tribute to Kryst’s life and legacy. In an interview with E! News, Crystle Stewart, the president of the Miss USA organization, opened up about her decision-making process. “In 2019, I had the honor and privilege of judging the Miss USA pageant at the Grand Sierra Resort and Spa in Reno and crowning former Miss USA Cheslie Kryst,” she explained. “In honor of Cheslie’s memory, we found it to be a fitting full circle moment that this year, the 2022 Miss USA pageant, will be held at the same venue in Reno, Nevada, not only as a way to keep Cheslie’s legacy alive but also to pay homage to the great city of Reno.”

The reigning Miss USA, Elle Smith of Kentucky, also expressed her approval for the 2022 host city. “I am honored that the Miss USA Organization is going back to Reno, to the city that started it all for Cheslie Kryst and for myself,” she shared. “I watched her historic win that night and was inspired to start my own pageant journey. Although our hearts are still hurting, I find comfort knowing I can pass down this crown and pay homage to beautiful Cheslie.”

The Miss USA Organization and the entire pageant community is still reeling from the loss of Cheslie. This historic way of paying tribute to her will help solidify Cheslie’s legacy for decades to come.
