Quick, here’s all you need to know about Miss Universe 2020! From how to watch the pageant to the contestants and judges, here’s all you need to know.
After a year of uncertainty, the Miss Universe Organization has managed to navigate through the pandemic successfully and is planning on putting on a show full of glamour, celebration of diversity and excitement.
The most awaited international pageant is happening this Sunday, May 16th, and will air live from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Seminole, Florida.
Over 70 contestants will be vying for the crown, which will be passed on by Zozibini Tunzi, the winner of Miss Universe 2019 and the first black South African Miss Universe.
The 69th edition of the Miss Universe pageant will be exclusively shown live on the FYI network at 8PM ET. If you don’t have cable, you can watch the FYI channel through Fubo TV, Sling TV, Hulu, and Philo.
Due to scheduling conflicts, the previous host of the pageant Steve Harvey of Family Feud will not be the show’s iconic host but instead, will be hosted by Mario Lopez and Olivia Culpo (Miss Universe 2012).
Former Miss USA 2019, Cheslie Kryst, will be the show’s correspondent and artist, Pitbull, will have a live performance during the competition.
Miss Universe Organization decided to have an all-female judging panel this year, called “The Selection Committee”. This panel includes:
— Arden Cho, star of MTV’s “Teen Wolf” and CEO of lifestyle brand Leonard & Church
— Brook Lee, Miss Universe 1997 and executive producer of Modern Wahine Hawaii
— Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line
— Deepica Mutyala, CEO of LiveTinted
— Keltie Knight, correspondent for Entertainment Tonight and New York Times bestselling author of “Act Like A Lady”
— Sheryl Adkins-Green, CMO of Mary Kay
— Tatyana Orozco, CEO of Arena del Río
— Zuleyka Rivera, Miss Universe 2006
Before Sunday night, the contestants are scored on their performance in the preliminary evening gown, preliminary swimsuit, and the judges interview. The judges interview is private, and the gown and swimsuit prelims will air on Friday May 14th.
Breaking from the previous years’ format, the top 21 semifinalists are selected based on total highest average score, instead of the former “continental” format where semifinalists are selected based on geographic region.
The Top 21 will then compete in the swimsuit round, of which a Top 10 is picked. The Top 10 then compete in the evening gown portion of the competition, after which the top five finalists are selected for the final Q & A round to determine who becomes Miss Universe 2020.
“One show, one night, one crown: witness history as women from around the world compete to be the next Miss Universe at the 69th Miss Universe Competition. Finalists will compete in interview, evening gown and swimsuit as they vie to bring home the victory to their home country during this three-hour telecast production.” —Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
